‘Penhill Dark Monarch’ Dahlia has beauty in spades as it dazzles the mid- to-late summer garden with 10-12" flowers. ‘Penhill Dark Monarch’ is a long-stemmed beauty that will light up the summer garden and wake up the flower vase with breathtaking, long-lasting blooms. Perfect as a garden focal point with its tall height and large blooms. A bee favorite, dahlias are easy to grow in a sunny spot with good drainage. Plant the tubers once the soil has warmed to 60F (about 2 weeks after your last frost) at a depth of 4-6 inches. Water once if the soil is dry, otherwise, wait to water until the plants have sprouted. Thereafter water regularly and deeply to encourage good growth. Once the plants are 12 tall, pinch the centers back to encourage long stems, if desired. Tall dahlias often require some staking, so plant your stakes along with your tubers so you won’t risk damaging the plant later.
